The Rogun HPP Project is vital for Tajikistan. It is designed to correct electricity shortfalls in the country’s winter requirements, as well as supplying electricity for export markets. When completed, the Rogun project’s 335m high dam will be the highest in the world.

President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan attended the historic closure of the Vakhsh River as part of the Rogun HPP Project. The President worked for over 90 minutes on a bulldozer to close the last section of the pre-cofferdam. Once he had closed it, he walked symbolically across to the other side. This heralds a new stage in the project.

The project in detail
The Rogun HPP Project includes the construction of a 335m embankment dam, a hydraulic tunnel for river diversion and water discharge, an underground power house with 6 units (6 x 600 MW), as well as the installation of the rest of the plant and auxiliary equipment.
